In place of Aadhaar number now you need to give VID (Virtual ID) which is linked to Aadhaar. This is to make sure that your Aadhaar number remains private.
Virtual ID or VID is a unique identification number provided to an Aadhaar holder. It has replaced Aadhaar number due to privacy concerns.
Now instead of Aadhaar number you have to provide your 16 digit VID to authenticate a transaction.
VID is not replacement for Aadhaar number but a secured way to hide Aadhaar number from public.
For example, If you are using Aadhaar number anyone can see it and store for misuse. Though Aadhaar in itself is very secured. To avoid revealing of Aadhaar number government has introduced VID.
VID is based on your Aadhaar and it is of 16 digit.
Generating VID is very easy. To generate VID follow below steps.
You will get a message with your VID on your registered mobile number. You can use this VID in future for any Aadhaar based authentication system.
VID is very useful. Earlier wherever you used your Aadhaar number, now you need to use your VID.
For example, if you were generating Digital Signatures online, you were suppose to give your Aadhaar number however now you need to provide your VID.
Similarly for mobile sims, if you were following OTP based authentication now you should provide your VID instead of Aadhaar.
